MY WORK @ ZALANDO

  From time to time I get various questions about my work at Zalando, so I finally decided to tell a bit more in detail about how I spend my days here in Berlin. In the end, that's the one and only reason why I am here now. First of all check out our new corporate video above - I think it gives quite a nice overview of what we are and do!   Back to the beginning. I came to Berlin exactly ten months ago when I started my internship in offline marketing department. Getting this chance was a dream come true to me, as I had already studied some fashion in the UK alongside my business courses and made my mind about the career within fashion industry. With short notice, I packed my suitcase again and moved to the city I had never been in before.   I work under Sales department in the Nordic offline team consisting of one Swedish, one Norwegian, one Danish and one Finnish employee, me! I am solely responsible for covering Finnish market when it comes to offline marketing activities. Meaning, a lot of responsibility balanced with freedom - jackpot! I appreciate working independently and following my own visions, as a part of the great team of course. And luckily, I ended up working in the best team ever. Working long hours so tightly together makes you kind of family, and that's what they have been to me in all the good and bad! To sum it up, lots of tears but way more laughs along the journey.   What we actually do in offline then? Only sky is the limit. Flyers, on-pack co-operations, offline media buying, and much more. I work a lot together with external partners such as fashion magazines and beauty brands, as well as other internal marketing channels to create multichannel campaigns. Maybe some of you heard about Zalando's treasure hunt in Helsinki? ;) I worked mainly at offline during the first half a year and I still do, but after finishing my initial internship I have been carrying another project within the marketing department from July on too.   The best parts of my work are definitely the awesome talented people, feeling of fashion, dynamic atmosphere and never ending change bringing the perfect pressure I need.   I couldn't be more thankful for my time at Zalando. I learned so much, got to work with so many great people, and the chance to be a part of the exploding success story of Zalando with all its ups and downs - believe me, they were many. To be honest it's killing me to move back to Finland and somehow I cannot give up a thought of returning here soon. MAY YOUR COFFEE BE STRONG AND MONDAY BE SHORT

I once saw a shirt with the statement "Black coffee speaks for me until 11AM" and still regret the fact that I left it in the store. Mondays, just saying. Today is a kickstart to the completely packed couple of days with never ending to-do list. It's been quite busy at work now as the Christmas season is up and running, and so am I with my Berlin bucket list and other high priority stuff that just takes a big essential slice of my daily free time. 
However, this week is going to be special in many ways. Not only that I'm cleaning tomorrow, I do it for a reason; On Wednesday night I get my two dear Finnish ladies for a proper visit! I'm so excited to have them in my Berlin life and just trying to figure out how to squeeze all the cool places into five days! Master plan is being made, nails being polished and flatmates have been warned.

Tää päivä onkin startti melkoiselle parin päivän puristukselle täyden aikataulun ja loppumattoman to-do listan kera. Töissä on  melkoista hulinaa kun joulusesonki on hurjassa vauhdissaan, kuten myös minä Berlin bucket listan ja monen muun erittäin elintärkeän projektin kera, jotka vaan haukkaa kalenterista ison palan. 
Joka tapauksessa, tää viikko on monella tavalla erityinen. Pelkästään jo siksi että ajattelin siivota huomenna, mutta teen sen äärimmäisen hyvästä syystä; saan keskiviikkona vieraakseni kaksi varsin rakasta naista suoraan Suomesta! Puhkun intoa, ja yritän järkeillä miten saan kaikki siistit paikat mahdutettua muutamaan päivään! Master plan on tekeillä, kynnet lakkauksessa ja naapureita varoitettu.

BREAKFAST AS PROMISED

…but not at Silo! I have run past this Hungarian coffee house Szimpla for so many times wondering how it is and finally me and Aino (surprisingly) decided to explore it thoroughly. So, we pulled ourselves together and headed out for this wonderful breakfast after some late night clubbing - yes, that's why I tightly kept my shades on! I had salmon with brie cheese. And fresh orange juice, large one. Pure hangover love. 
Now when planning to take a nap I just realised I left my dear Hercules bike in Neukölln last night, meaning there is no excuse to skip my evening run and get it back home. Shit, it's so far…
// Aamiaista kyllä, muttei Silossa! Olin lenkkeillyt tän unkarilaisen Szimpla kahvilan ohi niin monet kerrat miettien miltä sen sisällä näyttää, että vihdoin oli aika Ainon kanssa tutkia se läpikotaisin. Niimpä koottiin luumme ja suunnattiin tuhdille aamupalalle ulos auringonpaisteeseen pitkäksi venähtäneen klubbailun jäljiltä - ja kyllä, pidin aurinkolasit visusti päässä! Söin lohta ja brie-juustoa. Join iiiiiison appelsiinimehun, tuorepuristetun tietysti. Silkkaa rakkautta. 
Nyt juuri suunnitellessani päiväunia tajusin jättäneeni mun Hercules-pyörän jonnekin Neuköllniin viime yönä. Ei auta kuin lähteä iltalenkille nappaamaan se takaisin kotiin, voi epätoivo iskee jo nyt. Se on niin kaukana. 

SILO

One of the week's lunch spots! I met up with (flatmate) André for lunch and tasty cup of coffee at Silo, which is one my absolute favourites in Friedrichshein! Coffee shop owned by Aussies has stylish interior with some Nordic feel in it, cool people, and what's best; amazing, carefully picked menu from warmed spicy juices to unique meals all with great, fresh ingredients. The November sun was so  incredibly warm that we actually could seat outside to catch up and sip our cappuccinos - I have to say one of the most enjoyable lunch brake I had for a while, even though I never got my meal as I had to run to a meeting. Maybe Silo's breakfast is calling me tomorrow after some clubbing first ;) 
// Yksi viikon lounasspoteista! Treffattiin (kämppis) Andrén kanssa lounaan merkeissä Silossa, yhdessä mun ehdottomista lemppareista Friedrichsheinissa! Australialaisten pitämässä kahvilassa on simppeli mutta tyylikäs vähän Nordic-henkinen sisustus, mielenkiintoisia tyyppejä, ja mikä parasta; erinomainen, tarkoin harkittu menu lämmitetyistä maustemehuista spesiaaleihin herkkuannoksiin, kaikki tehty tuoreista suunmukaisista aineksista! Marraskuun aurinko oli niin lämmin, että parkeerattiin ulos  vaihtamaan kuulumisia capuccinojen ääressä - paras lounastauko pitkään aikaan, vaikken koskaan ehtinytkään syömään kokoukseen juostakseni. Ehkäpä Silon aamiainen kutsuu huomenna ensin pienen klubbailun jälkeen ;)

SAINT OF THE (SUN)DAY

One week passed again with no me-time, apart from Wednesday that I spent head wrapped in a cold towel, trying to survive the migraine. To be honest I love my life just as it is; intense and beautifully chaotic with its all up and downs, but slowing down from time to time wouldn't harm I guess. Just doing normal things like Facebook, laundry, blogging, polishing nails and cleaning feels impossible and boring when there are so many cooler things to do out there! Then again, writing about exactly those things makes me happy, knowing I can read about them later on. That's the dilemma! I have started recording audio notes for myself while walking from A to B to remember the things I love in Berlin. That's how serious this is. 
// Taas yksi viikko vierähti ilman stoppia, paitsi keskiviikkoa jonka vietin pää muumioituna kylmään pyyhkeeseen migreenistä selviytyen. Mä rakastan mun elämää just sellaisena ku se on, intensiivistä ja huvittavan kaoottista kaikkine vuoristoratoineen, mutta rauhottuminen silloin tällöin ei varmaan tekis pahaakaan. Ihan normijutut kuten facebookaaminen, pyykinpesu, bloggaaminen, kynsienlakkaus ja siivoaminen tuntuu täysin mahdottomilta, kun ulkona on niin paljon hauskoja huvituksia! Ja sitten kuitenkin, just niistä huvituksista kirjoittaminen olis kivaa, niin niitä vois muistella jälkeenpäin. Siinäpä dilemma. Mä oon alkanut nauhoitella itselleni ääninauhoja kävellessäni Asta Bhen muistaakseni kaikki kivat jutut Berliinistä, niin vakavaa tää jo on. 

BRUNCH @ 1900

Prenzlauer Berg is idyllic, my first home neighbourhood and still one of the favourite areas in Berlin and that's why I even manage to drag my half-dead Sunday self there for brunch from time to time. Yesterday me and Aino tried out a buffet called 1900 at the corner of Husemannstrasse and Wörtherstrasse (such beautiful block), which was slightly fancier for change with its avocado rolls and never-ending cheese selection keeping me happy. I'm sure brunch is the one and only right way to spend weekend morning and that's why Berlin is the place to be. Buffets empty their tables just afternoon around 4, meaning even I get my share of this delightful tradition. 
Over brunch there is time to revise the happenings of the passed week(end) like secrets of the sauna night or progress of my bucket list, as well as prepare for the upcoming challenges such as hunting for christmas party outfits. Priceless quality time, right?
// Prenzlauer Berg on idyllinen, mun ensimmäinen kotikortteli ja edelleen yks Berliinin lempparipaikoista, ja siksi mä jaksankin silloin tällöin jopa sunnuntaiaamuisin (iltapäivisin) pää kainalossa piipahtaa brunssille noille hoodeille. Tänään kokeiltiin Ainon kanssa uutta buffettia 1900:ssa, joka oli vähän fiinimpi tapaus avocadorullineen ja juustovalikoimineen - ei siis valittamista! Brunssi on ainoa oikea tapa viettää viikonloppuaamuja, joita varten Berliin on place to be. Aamupalat sulkevat ovensa vasta neljän aikaan iltapäivällä, joten mäkin ehdin aina osingoille pienestä päänsärystä huolimatta. 
Brunssilla ehtii juoruta kuluneen viikon(lopun) tarpeelliset ja tarpeettomat jutut, kuten saunaillan käänteet bucket listan edistyminen, ja päivitellä tulevaa, kuten sitä mitä pukea päälle pikkujouluihin. Korvaamatonta laatuaikaa! 
 

BACK IN BERLIN

// Okay. I could start off this post by listing various excuses for not blogging lately, but decided to save myself (and you) from the effort. Trip to Finland is already far behind and the fact that I only got two pictures of feta salad in my olympus, tells the week was a blast. 
Now I have returned to Berlin to spend my last month before moving back to Finland and I have to admit I feel lost. In Finland I miss Berlin whereas in Berlin I'm sometimes wondering where my home is. Now that the cold truth is out there, I cannot bare the thought of leaving this life behind and I'm running around the city 24/7 just to absorb all the possible feeling of it to myself - maybe it carries me when the Berlin home sickness hits me. Bucket list is on fire and I am not waisting a moment. 
This weekend I celebrated Berlin life with double brunch, shopping spree, sauna night with Finnish girls and I also popped by in a vintage pop up store launch by Rag and Bone. Outfit pics were shot during the secant of the mentioned, and just guess if the heels were number one decision for 6 hour walking? 
// Noniin, voisin aloittaa listaamalla tekosyyt siitä miksen oo blogannut, mutta säästän itseni (ja teidät) vaivalta. Pitkähkö Suomenreissu tuli ja meni, hauskaa oli ja kameraan jäi kaksi kuvaa fetasalaatista, mikä kertoo viikon hurahtaneen ihan kivasti. 
Nyt mä olen palannut Berliiniin viettämään mun vikaa kuukautta ennen Suomeen paluuta, enkä oo koskaan tuntenu itseäni näin eksyneeksi. Suomessa mulla on ikävä Berliiniin, ja Berliinissä mietin pitäiskö mun sittenkin olla Suomessa. Nyt kun päätös on tehty ja suuntaan takaisin Pohjolaan, en siedä sitä ajatusta ollenkaan ja viiletän vaan 24/7 tuolla jossain imemässä itseeni mahdollisimman paljon tätä kaupunkia, jospa se fiilis kantaa sitten kun ikävä yllättää. No, bucket list on kovassa vauhdissa enkä ainakaan anna hetkenkään valua hukkaan. 
Tänä viikonloppuna juhlittiin elämää tuplabrunssilla, shoppailulla, suomalaistyttöjen saunaillalla ja piipahdimpa myös Neuköllnissä Rag and Bonen järjestämässä vintage pop upissa. Kuvat on näistä reissuista toiselta, ja arvatkaa oliko hyvä veto noi korot kuuden tunnin kierrokselle? 
 

PIPOPÄÄ

Kun mä alan kulkea pipo päässä, se on yleensä merkki joko bileillan jälkeisestä päänsärystä tai arjen ylivoimaisesta väsystä. Tässä tapauksessa se oli tota jälkimmäistä, mutta myös puhdasta rakkautta mun designtorilta ostamaa Ambivalentin pipoa kohtaan! Logo on piilossa, kun asussa oli jo tarpeeksi printtiä  ja matskua joka lähtöön. Mitäs tykkäätte?
// When I start prancing around with a beanie on, it usually tells about either my hangover headache or just overwhelming morning tiredness. In this case it was the latter, but also the fact that I'm completely in love with the Ambivalent beanie I found in design market some weeks ago. The logo is hidden as the outfit had enough this and that in materials and print already though. Hit or miss?
